Europe
Portugal

Located in the far southwest of Europe, with about 3000 hours of sunshine per year and 850kms of splendid beaches bathed by the Atlantic Ocean, Portugal is the perfect place for lovers of the oceans and all the activities related to them.

This country has a great diversity of landscapes, natural environments, cultural heritage, traditions, leisure activities and incredible food, which differ by region. We offer a range of different activities throughout Portugal (including its islands) that allow students to get to know the country.*

Together with our partner, Pestana Hotel Group, we provide students and teachers with accommodation in the most historic and iconic properties, close to the sites where the activities take place.

*To offer you the best experience, all our activities are subject to weather conditions, season and availability.

The North Region

Mountainous area

This region is the birthplace of Portugal as a nation. It is full of mountains and natural parks, and is famous for its historical heritage where you can explore castles, shrines, churches, rural villages and chapels.

The characteristics of this region allow us to offer a set of activities focused on culture and nature. Flying above a valley while enjoying a stunning view, jumping from canyon to canyon, walking through the forest, riding a roller coaster or taking a hike through the National Parks of the north is what you can expect from these adrenaline-packed experiences.

Students have the opportunity to visit places such as Viana do Castelo, Peneda-Gerês National Park, Ribeira de Pena, Aveiro and Porto. The travel time to the different activity locations are approximately one to two hours by bus from Porto.

The Centre

Villages & Castles

The central region of Portugal is a place that is steeped in history; a few locations were considered world heritage sites by UNESCO.

On the Berlengas, students go on camping expeditions to learn camping and outdoor skills, visit the caves and do stand-up paddleboarding (SUP), while learning and contributing to the wealth of this unique ecosystem in Campo Aventura Júnior Park. Guided by instructors, students get the chance to engage in activities such as surfing, karting, laser tag, paintballing, orienteering, among other activities, while building strong relationships and team spirit. They will also have the opportunity to travel back in time and visit historical towns and castles like Óbidos - which once defended the Portuguese nation – and stay at the rural Óbidos Walls Pousada, which offers amazing facilites for youth groups.

Lisbon

The Capital City

Portugal’s capital city is surrounded by amazingly distinctive places. The centre of Lisbon is full of talented artists who perform in the streets; to the west is Cascais, characterised by its palaces, small towns, beaches and mountains; to the northwest is Sintra, with beautiful and romantic views; and to the south is Setúbal, an ideal place to spot dolphins.

Our programme combines plenty of activities from outdoor and adventure sports to cultural tours, environmental workshops, and volunteering projects, allowing schools to choose different options among type of activity and location. By participating in these activities, students develop new skills and commitment to the environment.

Algarve

The Nautical Destination

Located in the very south of Portugal, the Algarve is mainly surrounded by beautiful beaches, framed by golden cliffs, stunning landscapes, and provides a great variety of accommodation and entertainment.

Artur Watersports Academy challenges you to try different water sports like sailing, windsurfing, kayaking, wakeboarding, stand-up paddleboarding and waterskiing. They also offer ecological tours guided by professional biologists who teach students about the importance of the Ria Formosa National Park and about the local biodiversity.

If you are looking for something more land based, there is also the opportunity to hike or bike through the different routes of Vicentine Coast where the wild and natural beaches, dunes and cliffs are the main attractions.
